Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Whitaker for Mayor (the “Committee,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit this website, sign up for updates, volunteer, attend an event, or make a contribution.

1. Information we collect

  • Information you give us through forms. When you join our email or text list, sign up to volunteer, or RSVP to an event, we collect the information you provide — such as your first and last name, email address, ZIP code, mailing address, and mobile phone number, along with your stated interests (for example, which volunteer roles you selected).
  • Cookies and analytics. Like most websites, we may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working properly and to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use it (pages viewed, approximate location by region, device and browser type). You can control cookies through your browser settings; the site remains usable with cookies disabled.
  • Donation information. Contributions are processed by a third-party payment processor on the processor’s own secure pages. The Committee receives the contribution records the processor provides — such as your name, address, contribution amount, and the employer and occupation details campaign-finance law requires us to collect and report. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Correspondence. If you write to us by email or mail, we keep a copy of that correspondence so we can respond.

2. How we use information

  • To send you campaign updates, event invitations, volunteer opportunities, and donation requests by email, text message (if you opted in), phone, or mail;
  • To organize volunteer activity and match you with the roles you chose;
  • To process, record, and report contributions as campaign-finance law requires;
  • To operate, secure, and improve this website;
  • To comply with legal obligations, including election-law reporting.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

  • With service providers who help us run the campaign (for example, our website platform, email and texting providers, and payment processor), who may use it only to provide services to us;
  • With election authorities, where contribution reporting is required by law;
  • When required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety and legal position of the Committee;
  • With your consent, for any other purpose.

Mobile opt-in data: we will not share or sell your mobile phone number, text-message opt-in data, or consent with any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.

4. SMS / text-message program

Our text-message program, Whitaker for Mayor Campaign Updates, sends recurring campaign updates, event alerts, and donation requests by automated text message (SMS/MMS) to supporters who give express written consent by checking the opt-in box on our signup form (or by texting a posted keyword where offered). Consent is not a condition of any purchase or donation. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out; reply HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not remove you from our email list, and unsubscribing from email does not stop texts — each channel has its own opt-out. Full program terms are in our Terms of Service.

5. Data retention

We keep supporter records for the duration of the campaign and afterward as long as needed to meet campaign-finance record-keeping requirements, resolve disputes, and honor opt-out requests (suppression lists are retained so we do not contact you again). We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed for these purposes.

6. Your choices and privacy rights

  • Email: every campaign email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Texts: reply STOP to any message to opt out.
  • Access, correction, deletion: you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (subject to records we are legally required to keep). Write to us at the address below and we will respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, state privacy law may give you additional rights.

7. Children

This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Campaign contributions are accepted only from individuals 18 or older. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect supporter information, and we limit access to people working on the campaign who need it. No website or transmission method is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be posted on this page.
