No. 02 · The Neighbor
Sam Whitaker has spent a lifetime on Main Street — literally. Sam grew up over the family hardware store on the courthouse square, stocking shelves before school and learning early that a town runs on people who show up. Three generations of Whitakers have opened that same front door every morning, and Sam still does.
For eighteen years Sam has run Whitaker & Sons Hardware, meeting a payroll, sponsoring the summer ball league, and hearing — one customer at a time — exactly what’s working in Anytown and what isn’t. Sam served six years on the Planning Commission and four on the Downtown Improvement Board, where the storefront-grant program helped fill nine long-empty windows on the square.
Sam and their spouse, Jo, raised two kids in the same neighborhood where Sam grew up. You’ll find them most Saturdays at the farmers’ market, and most Sundays fixing something — a porch step, a scoreboard, a neighbor’s fence.
Sam is running for Mayor because a hometown isn’t something you inherit. It’s something you take care of — every block, every neighbor, every day.
The plan
Five plain-spoken commitments for our first term. No jargon, no ribbon-cuttings without follow-through — just the work.
No. 03 · The PlatformFill the empty storefronts on the square with a façade-grant fund, faster small-business permitting, and events that bring foot traffic back downtown every weekend.
Community policing that knows every block by name, working streetlights on every street, and full staffing for our fire and first-responder crews.
Reopen the community pool on time every summer, refresh every playground in town, and keep league fees low enough that every family can play.
A city checkbook posted online, every contract bid in the open, and a town-hall budget meeting in every ward before a single dollar is voted on.
A published pave-and-patch schedule for every street, potholes filled within ten working days, and sidewalks a stroller — or a wheelchair — can actually use.

Hot off the press
Before a crowd of neighbors on the square, Sam laid out five commitments for a first term — starting with a storefront fund to fill every empty window downtown.

Sam shows up. Pancake breakfasts, 2 a.m. structure calls, budget hearings nobody else attends — Sam is there for this town, every single time.
We taught half this town, and we know character when we see it. Sam listens first, does the homework, and keeps every promise made to our schools and seniors.
Nobody has fought harder to keep the lights on along Main Street. The storefront grants Sam championed brought nine businesses back to the square.
From the pool reopening to the new crosswalk by the elementary school, Sam turns neighborhood asks into finished projects. That’s the mayor we need.

This campaign isn’t funded by anybody but neighbors. Ten dollars covers a box of clipboards; twenty-five keeps the HQ coffee pot going for a week.
