Who we are
This website is operated by Citizens for Proposition 12 ("the Committee," "we," "us"), a ballot-measure committee supporting Proposition 12, The Safe Parks Initiative. This policy explains what information we collect through this website, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Information you give us through forms. When you join our email list, sign up to volunteer, or RSVP to an event, we collect the information you provide: name, email address, ZIP code, and — only if you choose to provide it — your mobile phone number and volunteer interests.
- Cookies and analytics. We may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working properly and to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use it (for example, which pages are viewed most). You can control cookies through your browser settings; the site remains usable with cookies disabled.
- Donation information. Donations are processed by a third-party payment processor, not on this website. The processor collects the payment and donor details required by law (including name, address, occupation, and employer where applicable) under its own privacy policy. We receive donation records from the processor for compliance reporting.
- Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs basic technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, used for security and troubleshooting.
How we use your information
- To send you campaign updates, event invitations, volunteer opportunities, and election reminders you have requested.
- To operate the campaign: organizing volunteers, planning events, and understanding which neighborhoods we have reached.
- To comply with campaign-finance and election laws, including required disclosure of contributions.
- To secure and improve this website.
How we share information — and how we don't
We do not sell your personal information. Specifically:
- We do not sell or share mobile opt-in data. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with or sold to any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
- We share information with service providers who help us operate the campaign (for example, our website platform, email service, text-messaging provider, and payment processor) only as needed to provide those services, and they may use it only for that purpose.
- We disclose information when required by law — including campaign-finance disclosure of contributor information — or to protect the rights, safety, and security of the Committee and others.
SMS / text-message program
Our text-message program, "Citizens for Proposition 12 Campaign Updates," is strictly opt-in. If you provide your mobile number and check the consent box, you agree to receive recurring campaign updates, event alerts, and donation requests by automated text message (SMS/MMS) and calls. Consent is not a condition of any purchase or donation. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help. We will not share or sell your mobile opt-in data or consent with any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Full program terms are in our Terms of Service.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information for as long as needed for the purposes above: through the life of the campaign and any period required by campaign-finance record-keeping laws. Opt-out records (such as STOP requests and unsubscribe requests) are retained so we can honor them. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
Your rights and choices
- Unsubscribe from email at any time using the link in any campaign email.
- Opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP.
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the address below. We will honor requests except where retention is required by law (for example, contribution records).
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy law; we will honor verified requests as those laws require.
Children
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we hold. No website can guarantee perfect security, so please use good judgment about the information you submit online.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the campaign evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes to how we handle mobile opt-in data will be communicated before they take effect.
