Common questions
Does Proposition 12 raise my taxes?
No. The measure reallocates a fixed share of the city's existing general fund. It contains no new tax, fee, or rate increase, and it cannot be used to create one later — that would require a separate vote.
Who watches how the money is spent?
Two layers: an independent auditor publishes a full public report every year, and a volunteer resident oversight committee — open to any registered voter in Anytown — reviews spending line by line and can flag concerns directly to the city council.
What happens if it doesn't pass?
Honestly: nothing changes. Park funding stays at current levels, the maintenance backlog continues to grow, and after-school sites keep operating year-to-year without guaranteed funding. The city would need a new measure in a future election to address it.
