Meet Rosa
One of us —
and she never forgot it.
Rosa Aiken grew up on the east side of Anytown, the daughter of a school-bus driver and a nurse. She waited tables to pay for college, came home, and spent fifteen years running the family diner on Main Street before she ever ran for anything.
She got into local government the way most neighbors do — because something broke and nobody was fixing it. A washed-out bridge on Route 9 stayed closed for two years until Rosa organized the businesses it cut off and got it rebuilt. Then she ran for City Council, and then for Mayor.
As Mayor, Rosa balanced eight budgets in a row without raising the property-tax rate, brought fourteen hundred jobs downtown, and made sure a pothole gets fixed whether you live on the hill or on the east side. She still eats breakfast at the diner most Saturdays — and she still answers when you stop her in line.
